GCS CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN

ACTION TO BE TAKEN IN THE EVENT OF A TRAUMATIC OR TRAGIC INCIDENT AFFECTING:

* Camp School Staff  * Visiting Students or Staff   * Visiting Community Groups

 

It should be noted that whilst many visiting schools have a crisis management policy, the Geraldton Camp School Crisis Response Plan is to be implemented immediately a situation occurs.  All information MUST be given to the Camp School Manager

1. SERIOUS ACCIDENT – ON SITE

  • First Staff Member to the scene MUST access the situation and NOT move the patient
  • Contact the Camp School Manager immediately
  • Camp School Manager to attend the accident scene and apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures
  • Registrar to contact appropriate emergency services (If unavailable closest available GCS staff member or visiting staff member)
  • Teacher/Supervisor to take charge of the group and move them away from the accident scene.
  • Camp School Manager to notify (via Registrar if available)

     *Midwest District Education Office (Operations Manager)

     *Principal/Director of visiting school/group – who then  

       informs parents of injured person

  • Camp School Manager to contact the Student Services Director at the Midwest District Office regarding the availability of counseling services
  • Accident/incident report to be completed by the Camp School Manager and Supervising Teacher/Leader

 

 

 

 

 

2. SERIOUS ACCIDENT – OFF SITE DURING A CAMP SCHOOL RELATED EXCURSION

  • Teacher/Leader in charge to access the situation and NOT move the patient 
  • Immediately contact the appropriate emergency personnel
  • Nearest Teacher/Adult to remove the rest of the group away from the accident scene
  • Contact the Camp School Manager
  • Camp School Manager to notify (via Registrar if available)

    *Midwest District Education Office (Operations Manager)

    *Principal/Director of visiting school/group – who then

      informs parents of injured person

  • Camp School Manager to contact the Student Services Director at the Midwest District Office regarding the availability of counseling services

3. EMERGENCY EVACUATION

 

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

  • Camp School Manager or Supervisor in charge of visiting group to inform all Camp School staff and visitors of the evacuation via the PA system.
  • All clients to move to their closest Emergency Assembly area under the direction of their Teachers/Supervisors
  • Teachers/Leaders to check all students and visitors are present and report anyone missing to the Camp School Manager or Supervisor in Charge
  • All studentsand visiters are to remain in the Emergency Assembly area and stay close to their Teachers/Leaders at all times
  • Everyone is to remain in their Emergency Assembly area and wait for instructions from the Camp School Manager or Supervisor in Charge

 

ROLES OF CAMP SCHOOL STAFF

1.Camp School Manager

· Compiles details of emergency and prepares evacuation statement

· Reads evacuation statement clearly over the PA twice

·  Collects the mobile phone – contacts Midwest District  Education Office

· Checks with GCS staff that all areas have been evacuated

· Moves to the Emergency Assembly Areas and checks that group Supervisors have marshaled the students and visitors

· Checks with group Supervisors the record of attendance & assists with crowd control

·When appropriate inform supervisors of cancellation of the evacuation

·If required contact Student Services Director at the Midwest District Office regarding availability of counseling services

·Incident report to be completed by the Camp School Manager

2.Registrar

· Makes contact with appropriate emergency services

· Collect latest backup tape

· Ensures the library has been evacuated

· Move to the Lower Car Park Assembly Area  

3. Cleaner

· Ensures all dormitories & laundry have been evacuated

·  Supervises the northern car park to prevent entry by visitors

4. Cook

·  Ensures the dining room, washing up area & kitchen have been evacuated 

· Assists supervision of the southern car park to prevent entry by visitors

5. Gardener

·  Ensure all sheds are locked

·  Supervises the southern car park to prevent entry by visitors

4. FATALITY – ON SITE

  • Teacher/Leader at the scene to isolate and control emergency situation so that no other fatalities occur. Send a responsible adult/student to notify the Camp School Manager immediately
  • Camp School Manager and Group Supervisor to attend the scene and arrange for other students to be moved from the site to a quiet area e.g. dining hall
  • Camp School Manager to notify:

             *Emergency authorities i.e. ambulance, police, fire & rescue

             *Midwest District Education Office – District Director

             *Principal/Director of visiting school/group

  • A Teacher remains at the accident scene and ensures the site is undisturbed to preserve any evidence
  • Camp School Manager records names of any witnesses, telephone numbers, address, times, exact location etc.
  • Camp School Manager to contact the Student Services Director at the Midwest District Office regarding the availability of counseling services
  • Camp School Manager completes an Accident Statement and Report (within 5 days) and forward to DET’s Health and Safety Section
