LEARNING AREAS - SOCIETY & ENVIRONMENT
STRAND 1: INVESTIGATION, COMMUNICATION & PARTICIPATION
Students investigate the ways in which people interact with each other and with their environments in order to make informed decisions and implement relevant social action.
 Possible activities:
  • Investigating costs, budgets and activities associated with the camp
  • Reporting on tours, excursions and activities
  • Letters of enquiry regarding camp activities etc.
  • Mapping
  • Camp policy, rules and duties
  • Problem solving activities
 

STRAND 2: PLACE & SPACE
Students understand that the interaction people have with places in which they live is shaped by the location, patterns and processes associated with natural and built features.

 Possible activities:
  • Environmental activities and impact on people and places
  • Historical activities
 

STRAND 3: RESOURCES Students understand that people attempt to meet their needs by making optimum use of limited resources in enterprising ways.

 Possible activities:
  • Farming, fishing and mining industries
  • Recycling programs
 


STRAND 4: CULTURE
Students understand that people form groups because of their shared understandings of the world, and, in turn, they are influenced by the particular culture so formed.

Possible activities:

  • Cultural based activities and tours

STRAND 5: TIME, CONTINUITY & CHANGE
Students understand that peoples' actions and values are shaped by their understanding and interpretation of the past.
 Possible activities:
  • Local history tours of places buildings and museums e.g. Pioneer Museum, Kalbarri Gorges
 

STRAND 6:  NATURAL & SOCIAL SYSTEMS

Students understand that systems provide order to the dynamic natural and social relationships occurring in the world.
 Possible activities:
  • Environmental science activities
  • Environmental impact
  • Rules and duties
 

STRAND 7:  ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP
Students demonstrate active citizenship through their behaviour and practices in the school environment, in accordance with the principles and values associated with the democratic process, social justice and ecological sustainability.
